Mitt Romney and Bob Dole: Irony Alert

In a statement released by Mitt Romney’s campaign after the Feb. 22 debate in Arizona, former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole referred to Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum as “Washington insiders.”

When Dole was the Republican presidential nominee in 1996, he had about 35 1/2 years of experience in the House and Senate — about equal to the combined congressional service of Gingrich (20 years) and Santorum (16 years).
