In 2008, Barack Obama named his running mate in late-night text messages.
In 2012, Mitt Romney is naming his running mate with an app.
The Romney campaign is offering a downloadable app for those who want to be part of the long-awaited announcement.
The app — appropriately named “Mitt’s VP” — will serve as the campaign’s first official distribution channel for an announcement expected possibly next week. It’s free for iPhones and Androids.
“The historic announcement is getting closer,” says Beth Myers, the Romney adviser in charge of the veep search. “With this new app, users can be the first to know the second member of America’s Comeback Team.”
We expect it will be one of the 13 names Myers rolled out on Twitter late last week.
Romney Digital Director Zac Moffatt says: “Users of the app will be the first to get the news on the biggest political decision of the year through an instantaneous alert on the one device most people carry around the clock – their phone.”
Users will receive a push notification on their smart-phones allowing them to share the news on their own social networks.
The Biden announcement went out by texts in the middle of the night.
No word from camp Romney about the timing of the app alert.
