President Barack Obama and allied Democratic Party committees raised $181 million last month, the campaign announced on Twitter today.
The monthly total is the largest reported for Obama’s re-election effort, and includes his campaign committee as well as the Democratic National Committee and state parties, which can take in larger contributions than the candidate.
The campaign said it received donations from 1.8 million people, including 567,000 first-time donors.
Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney has not disclosed his September fund-raising figures.
The announcement was made in advance of the Oct. 20 filing deadline with the Federal Election Commission.
Obama outpaced Romney in fundraising in August, for the first time in four months.
