Former President Bill Clinton will headline a rally for Christie Vilsack, the Democrat challenging Republican firebrand Rep. Steve King of Iowa.
Clinton will appear at a rally in Sioux City on Friday.
King, who is running for his sixth term in the U.S. House for the first time faces a challenging race in his Fourth congressional district, redrawn since the Census, which cost Iowa one seat in Washington.
The Web-site RealClearPolitics rates the race between King and Vilsack as a toss-up. Vilsack is married to Tom Vilsack, Iowa’s former governor and now President Barack Obama’s agriculture secretary.
“President Clinton knows that creating a strong economy begins with rebuilding the middle class in this country,” Christie Vilsack said in a statement announcing Clinton’s appearance at the rally. ” This is the same kind of leadership I’ll bring to Congress as I fight for the 4th District.”
