Sean Patrick Maloney, the Democrat taking on freshman Republican Rep. Nan Hayworth of New York in Hudson Valley, is getting some help from his former boss, Bill Clinton.
The former president is going to host a reception with Maloney, whose race with Hayworth is rated as competitive by political analyst Charlie Cook.
First, though, Maloney is following the playbook of President Barack Obama, who has used contests to meet prominent figures as a way to raise hundreds of millions of dollars for his campaign.
Want to meet Clinton? Log onto Maloney’s Web site and make a contribution to be entered into the contest.
“It’s a win-win,” Maloney writes. “You help support our campaign to put the needs of working families first, and get a chance to meet my good friend, President Clinton.”
