Rep. Chris Murphy, the Democratic nominee for Connecticut’s open Senate seat, is pulling away from his Republican challenger, Linda McMahon, the former chief executive officer and founder of World Wrestling Entertainment Inc., a Quinnipiac University poll shows.

Murphy led McMahon, by 49 percent to 43 percent, among likely voters in a survey released today. In a poll at the start of the month, McMahon held a 48-47 percent lead.

McMahon has lent her campaign more than $27 million and donated another $675,000 from her own pocket. She spent more than $50 milion of her own money two years ago as the Republican nominee for Senate when she lost to Democrat Richard Blumenthal.

“It’s déjà vu all over again,” said Douglas Schwartz, the poll’s director. “As we hit the final stretch of the campaign, Linda McMahon is beginning to fade, as she did in her 2010 run.”

The poll of 1,412 likely voters was taken Oct. 19-22 and had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.6 percentage points.
