If there was no question about national security, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said today, the requirement for the FBI to notify Congress would not have been triggered in its probe of e-mails involving retired Gen. David Petraeus, who quit as CIA director because of an extramarital affair exposed in the e-mails.

Still, the California Democrat said, in a case of “poor behavior, it would have been nice to know about it before we saw it on TV.”

White House spokesman Jay Carney reiterated again today that the president did not learn of Petraeus’ problem until Wednesday, the day after Election Day. The story came out Friday, when Petraeus’ letter of to CIA employees was made public.
