Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina, the rightest of the right, is leaving the Senate.
“It’s time for me to pass the torch to someone else and take on a new role in the fight for America’s future,” said DeMint, announcing his plans to become president of the Heritage Foundation, one of Washington’s preeminent conservative think tanks.
Sen. Bernie Sanders, the Vermont independent who stands squarely left of center, was asked at a FCC news conference today if he had any reaction to DeMint retiring.
His silence was somewhat awkard.
It’s behavior unbecoming a senator to say such things as good riddance, yet Sanders couldn’t seem to summon anything nice to say.
