It is now White House-certified.

Along with The President’s Challenge, and the Presidential Youth Fitness Program, and the first lady’s Let’s Move campaign, the Obama administration is heartily endorsing Yoga — the “universal language of spiritual exercise.”

“Every day millions of people practice yoga to improve their health and overall well-being,” the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition notes. “That’s why we’re encouraging everyone to take part in (the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award) so show your support for yoga and answer the challenge!”

This year’s Easter Egg Roll featured a yoga garden, which the Times of India was happy to note.

And during the election campaign, Obama.com was peddling yoga pants (as well as wine glasses).

Organizing for Action, the post-election committee dedicated to advancing the president’s agenda, is even sponsoring a yoga session as a fundraising event.

Does Obama practice yoga? Answers.com says “yes.”
