New Hampshire’s Democratic Party wants to be sure those attending their November fundraiser know a thing or two about the honored guest, Maryland’s Gov. Martin O’Malley.
To that end, the party sent out an e-mail with key points about the 50 year-old governor who is mulling a presidential bid in 2016. The factoids were light on policy and provide a preview of how the little-known Maryland governor might sell himself to activists in the first-in-the-nation primary state.
He knows Jeanne Shaheen!
O’Malley worked for the popular New Hampshire governor turned U.S. Senator when he was cutting his teeth in politics.
He’s a movie star!
Well, maybe not a real movie star, but the e-mail points out that O’Malley once shared the silver screen with John Travolta and Joaquin Phoenix during a cameo in the 2004 film “Ladder 49.”
He’s a rock star too!
The missive notes that O’Malley sings and plays the guitar in his Celtic Rock group O’Malley’s March. It’s been a hobby that dates to his days as Baltimore’s mayor — though O’Malley limited his appearances when he starting running for governor in 2006amid concerns in Annapolis that the rock gigs interfered with official duties.
Now, as he’s starting to run for president, the band is a selling point.
(Though he may want to consult with that Republican bassist, Mike Huckabee.)
