Sen. Michael Bennet has a well-thought-out reason for thinking the current Congressional stalemate will be broken before the U.S. loses its authority to borrow money.
“Even as dysfunctional as we are, I don’t think we’re that dysfunctional,” the Colorado Democrat said this morning at a Bloomberg Government Breakfast.
Bennet also thinks his party wouldn’t emerge unscathed if the debt limit is reached or breached. Though polling shows Republicans would bear more of the blame, “the Democrats are going to get the blame for not stopping it,” he said.
And speaking of blame, chalk him up as one Democrat who sees plenty to go around.
“There’s been an abject failure of leadership here” going back to 2010, he said, “both in the Senate and the House.”
