That’s the share of the vote that President Barack Obama received in the 2012 election in Massachusetts’ 5th District, a Democratic bastion near Boston that’s holding a special primary election today.
The winner of the seven-candidate Democratic race is highly likely to succeed Democratic Sen. Ed Markey, who vacated the seat in July after winning a special Senate election the previous month. The special election will be held on Dec. 10.
It’s the first of three special elections this week. New Jersey voters tomorrow will elect a new senator, with Democrat Cory Booker favored to defeat Republican Steve Lonegan. Voters in Louisiana’s 5th District on Oct. 19 will narrow a 14-candidate field that includes candidates of all parties.
