The fact that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton hasn’t declared her future plans has proven to be no barrier to supporters who want her to run for president in 2016.
The latest to sign up for a possible Clinton presidential campaign are California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom and his wife, actress and filmmaker Jennifer Siebel Newsom. They have endorsed Ready for Hillary, the super-political action committee backing Clinton, also a former first lady and senator from New York.
“It is an honor to join other longtime Hillary supporters – as well as new ones – who understand that a national grassroots organization in support of her potential candidacy can’t be built overnight,” the Newsoms said in a statement released by the super-PAC. “We are confident the efforts to encourage Hillary to run – and support her if she does – will be critical if we’re going to have a shot at breaking the glass ceiling and putting a woman in the White House.”
Ready for Hillary also has the support of investor George Soros, a big donor to Democratic causes and the 30th richest person in the world, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, who joined as a co-chairman of the super-PAC’s national finance council.
Gavin Newsom is a veteran of Clinton’s unsuccessful 2008 campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination, which she lost to Barack Obama.
