U.S. Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) speaks during a hearing before the Subcommittee on Emergency Management, Intergovernmental Relations, and the District of Columbia of Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

Cory Booker has been here, what, three weeks?

It was Halloween when the junior senator from New Jersey was sworn into office by Vice President Joe Biden, president of the Senate.

And look who was presiding over the Senate today:

He may be the only vegetarian in the Senate, though he’s not claiming the title of the first.

The former mayor of Newark, an exuberant sort of optimist, is feeling is oats in office.

Yet he is heeding the advice of another former, actual president, George W. Bush, who always reminded mayors as he was traveling: Take care of those potholes.
