That’s about how much unclaimed money the Transportation Security Administration collected at airport security checkpoints in fiscal year 2012.
The House is expected to pass a bill that would transfer unclaimed money to “nonprofit organizations that provide travel-related services to military personnel and their families,” as Bennett Roth and Loren Duggan explain here for Bloomberg Government’s Congress Tracker.
At the moment, United Services Organizations “is the sole non-profit operating airport lounges for military service members and their families and multiple locations” and “would be the only qualified recipient” if the bill becomes law, according to a congressional committee report.
Read more here from Bloomberg’s Derek Wallbank about USO-operated airport lounges and the legislation, which is called the “TSA Loose Change Act.”
The bill is H.R. 1905.
