Sen. Chuck Schumer isn’t just losing a colleague.
He’s losing a roommate.
With the announced retirement of Rep. George Miller of California today, the senior senator from New York, not to mention the senior senator from Illinois, will be looking for a new roommate.
I’ve lived w/ George Miller for 30+ years; he is one of the finest ppl, legislators & landlords. He will be missed by Congress & America.-cs

Miller owns a house a quarter mile from the Capitol that he shares with Schumer and Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, the majority whip. Miller bought the house in the 1970s and began renting it out to lawmakers in 1982, according to an article in The New York Times about the living situation, as the Hill notes.
For his part, Miller is leaving after four decades in Congress, having been first elected in 1974.
Thank you for 40 remarkable years. The fight for America’s middle class and working families goes on. What a wonderful experience it’s been.
