For some time now, Barbara Bush has been saying there ought to be some families in America — any families but the Bushes and Clintons — that can produce some good candidates for president.

The former first lady, wife of one President George Bush and mother of another President George Bush, said so again in a recent C-Span interview.

“If we can’t find more than two or three families to run for higher office, that’s silly,” she said, “because there are great governors and great eligible people to run.” She added: “There are a lot of ways to serve, and being president is not the only one, and I would hope that someone else would run.”

Jeb Bush, brother and son of those presidents and son of Barbara, hasn’t said when he’ll make up his own mind about a 2016 presidential bid.

But he did have some fun at his mother’s expense on Twitter:

And the former Florida governor clearly has another date fixed in his calendar.

And for the record, his mother said Jeb would make a great president.
