Miami Beach, meet Washington.
Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak, and Stone Crab made its debut in the nation’s capital last night — the menu a reflection of the fact that the stone crabs that have made the real Joe’s at the bottom of South Beach an iconic restaurant are strictly seasonal (winter) fare.
Illinois Democrats Sen. Dick Durbin and Rep. Jan Schakowsky were among those packed into the new eatery on 15th Street, just blocks away from the White House. So was another Chicagoan, Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker. It’s likely to quickly become a power-dining favorite.
Lobbyists such as former Sen. John Breaux of Patton Boggs, Heather Podesta, Lyndon Boozer of AT&T and Gina Adams of FedEx were seen checking out the restaurant’s board rooms for potential fundraisers and pow-wows.
Joe’s boasts two stories with chandeliers, banquettes, huge bar, and what one guest referred to as a “sexy, elegant” ambience. “I hope the tourists don’t find out about it,” the guest said.
The restaurant opens — to lobbyists and tourists alike — on Friday.
