This isn’t global warming in reverse.
This is a test, only a test.
In Florida’s Panhandle, at the biggest military base east of the Mississippi River.
The Airbus A350 XWB is undergoing extreme weather testing at the McKinley Climatic Lab at Eglin Air Force Base. Airbus says the aircraft is being subjected to extreme hot and cold temperatures that this unique lab can provide. “These tests come on top of those already performed earlier this year in the Middle East and Northern Canada to ensure maturity and full in-service readiness from day 1 for all A350 XWB operators,” Airbus said in a statement reported by Air Transport World earlier this month.
The certification of the aircraft is expected to wrap up in the third quarter of 2014, the jetliner entering serve in the fourth quarter.
Meaning winter — though in warmer climes, perhaps.
Fun fact: -40 Celsius happens to equal -40 Farenheit.
