Ever wonder where e-mail spam comes from? Cloudmark, a computer security firm, has made a video showing the world’s hottest spots for spammers over the past couple of weeks.
While computers in the U.S., Europe and Asia are the main culprits, one place where you’ll find almost no spam originating from is Africa. The continent is almost entirely spam-free, in large part because of the lack of Internet-connected computers and sufficient bandwidth to disguise a spamming operation.
The infamous Nigerian spammers, it seems, are going abroad to launch their world-famous “419” money-seeking scams.
