Overview
HMT Empire Windrush arrived at Tilbury docks on 21 June 1948, bringing more than 800 passengers from the Caribbean. This was a historic moment that saw mass migration redefine and shape modern Britain. On 2nd July we will celebrate its 76th anniversary, where communities come together to celebrate the contributions of the Windrush Generation and their families in the UK.
Join us in person for a Windrush 76 conversation at Bloomberg’s London office. The conversation will be an inspiring and interactive panel, featuring Kareen Cox, designer of the Windrush Stamp; Patrick Vernon OBE – Social commentator & Windrush Campaigner; Lisa Anderson – Managing Director of Black Cultural Archives; Marie Garrison, Patron of Black Cultural Archives, and moderated by Sonia Meggie, Bloomberg D&I Business Partner for News & Media.
We will close the evening with refreshments and networking.

Kareen Cox
Kareen Cox, has run her freelance business, Absolutely Kareen, for over ten years and is a muti-disciplinary creative. Her skillset covers graphic design, illustration and photography. Her biggest artwork to date was a temporary public art mural that wrapped around the exterior three floors of the Dugdale Arts Centre in Enfield.
She loves to design with bright colours and finds portraiture, typography and geometrics are her favourite genres in design. As a digital artist, most of her works take shape on her tablet first. One of her highlights last year was the illustration of two Royal Mail stamps.
Her creative background lies in graphic design, and she has over two decades of experience in working alongside organisations, creating advertising campaigns, corporate branding and marketing material.
Her parents originate from St Lucia and Barbados, and travelled to the UK in the early sixties. Kareen grew up in central London and from an early age, has always enjoyed drawing but didn’t realise this could be a career choice until much later on in life. She says, “I count myself extremely lucky that I do what I love. When I have some rare downtime, I pick up my tablet and just doodle.”
Kareen holds a BA Hons in Design and Media and resides in London.
