Biotech in China: How to Gain Without Pain

Brad Loncar is an independent biotech investor and analyst, and has managed a biotech-focused family office since 2008. Through Loncar Investments LLC, he uses his research of biotech companies and technologies to develop equity indexes that are focused on precise investment opportunities. Mr. Hogg joined Chi-Med in 2000, as its first employee, and has since led all aspects of the creation, implementation and management of the Company’s strategy, business and listings.  This includes the establishment of the Company’s Innovation Platform, which now comprises 8 drug candidates that are being investigated in active or completed clinical studies in 36 target patient populations around the world and a scientific team of approximately 360 people based in Shanghai.  Furthermore, the acquisition and operational integration of assets led to the formation of the Company’s Commercial Platform, which manufactures and markets over 200 drugs through a team of over 3,300 marketing personnel covering over 300 cities and towns in China.

Prior to joining Chi-Med, Mr. Hogg spent ten years with P&G, starting in the United States in Finance and then Brand Management in the Laundry and Cleaning Products Division. Mr. Hogg then moved to China to manage P&G’s detergent business, followed by a move to Brussels to run P&G’s global bleach business.

Mr. Hogg received a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Edinburgh and an MBA from the University of Tennessee.

Mr. Michael Chan is Senior Vice President of the Market Development Division of HKEX who heads the international issuer marketing efforts. Michael is mainly focused on market development work promoting the Hong Kong listing platform and origination work attracting international companies to list in Hong Kong. In addition to leading the marketing efforts globally and working closely with prospects and constituents, Michael often speaks and serves as panelist and keynote speaker at major conferences and events locally and internationally. Prior to his current role, Michael has worked at the Listing Division of HKEX for 8 years covering areas of compliance, corporate governance, regulatory and IPO-related matters.

Prior to joining HKEX, Michael has worked at various financial institutions in corporate finance and business development. Michael has more than 17 years of experience in financial services and regulatory work.

Dr. Sam Fazeli is a senior analyst and the EMEA head of Bloomberg Intelligence. Dr. Fazeli specializes in global pharmaceuticals and brings with him over 20 years of experience in equity research working at firms such as Nomura International and HSBC.

Prior to joining Bloomberg in 2010, Dr. Fazeli worked at Piper Jaffray, Ltd. as a pharmaceutical analyst and head of European research and before transitioning to investment banking, Dr. Fazeli was a research scientist for seven years.

Dr. Fazeli has been ranked a top analyst by both the U.K. and Pan-European Extel surveys. He received a bachelor’s of science from Cardiff University, and a Ph.D. in pharmacology from the University of London.
