Last spring, Bloomberg Beta and Bloomberg Opinion joined together to host a first-of-its-kind event in San Francisco — “Bloomberg Ideas.” The aim was to get a small group of experts together around a table to discuss the ways in which new technologies are shaping economic and political life around the world. These subjects are stubbornly immune to panel discussions, and so we decided to try to address them through two-hour conversations, led by Noah Feldman, a Bloomberg Opinion columnist and, not incidentally, a professor of law at Harvard. The event was a success. We had nearly 100,000 live viewers across Facebook and Periscope.
We are excited to bring the show to New York City in October.
The columnists will meet on October 25 and 26, bringing their unique perspectives spanning technology, finance, politics, law, business, and economics. Our participants are Dina Bass, Leonid Bershidsky, Clive Crook, Tyler Cowen, Justin Fox, Nir Kaissar, Matt Levine, Andy Mukherjee, Elaine Ou, Shira Ovide, Barry Ritholtz, Camila Russo, Noah Smith.
They’ll cover topics central to the technology industry: how government should (or shouldn’t) regulate technology, the economics of artificial intelligence, and the current state of cryptocurrencies.
We’ll also have a handful of guests in the audience, participating here and there in the conversation. Those guests will, themselves, be people with relevant expertise and a point of view. If you think we should consider you to attend, please click ‘Tell Us Why You Want to Join’ above.
You can also follow the conversation live by following us on Twitter and Facebook.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
