Speakers

Lee Klaskow
Lee A. Klaskow is a senior analyst for Bloomberg Intelligence. He specializes in freight transportation and logistics, including global marine shipping, air freight and logistics sectors as well as the North American trucking and railroad industries.
Prior to joining Bloomberg, he was a senior analyst at Longbow Research and Prudential Equity Group, where he covered freight transportation and logistics companies. He has also worked at Prudential Equity Group as an industrial associate prior to being promoted to senior analyst. He helped originate and execute global equity transactions for both ABN Amro Rothschild and J.P. Morgan. Lee began his career at McCarthy, Crisanti & Maffei analyzing and reporting on the primary equity markets.
He earned his bachelor of science degree in finance and management from Ithaca College, and his master’s in business from Fordham University.

Alastair Maxwell
Alastair Maxwell joined GasLog on February 1, 2017 and became Chief Financial Officer in March 2017. He also became CFO of our subsidiary GasLog Partners in March 2017.
Prior to joining GasLog, Mr. Maxwell worked in the investment banking industry for 29 years, most recently with Goldman Sachs from 2010 to 2016 where he was a partner and Co-Head of the Global Energy Group with responsibility for relationships with a wide range of corporate and other clients. Previously, from 1998 to 2010, he was with Morgan Stanley, most recently as Managing Director and Head of Energy in the EMEA region based in London and prior to that as Executive Director and Head of Latin America Utilities based in New York. From 1987 to 1998 he was at Dresdner Kleinwort Benson in a series of roles in the Utilities and M&A Groups based in London, Spain, and Brazil.
Mr. Maxwell studied Modern Languages (Spanish and Portuguese) at Worcester College, Oxford.

Hamish Norton
Hamish Norton is President of Star Bulk Carriers Corp. Previously, he was Managing Director and Global Head of Maritime at Jefferies, where he created Nordic American Tanker Shipping and Knightsbridge Tankers. Norton advised on key mergers, including Arlington Tankers and General Maritime, and worked with U.S. Shipping Partners and New Mountain Capital. He held senior roles at Bear Stearns and Lazard Frères, where he was General Partner and Head of Shipping. Norton serves as Director of Neptune Lines and Cadre Holdings. He earned a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Chicago.

Peter Sand
Peter Sand joined BIMCO in 2009 and holds the position of Chief Shipping Analyst. In this position, he is responsible for analysing the commercial markets for dry bulkers, tankers and containerships. Taking the offset in global economics as the analytical starting point for all seaborne trade, he assists managements, members and clients with insight into many different aspects of the global shipping industry.
Peter’s regular reports, focused analytical articles and insightful comments on the shipping market are widely read and have often been referenced in global mainstream media.
Teacher of Maritime Economics at the Danish Shipping Academy as well as guest lecturer at Copenhagen Business School: Blue MBA and BSc International Shipping and Trade.
During the rise and fall of the shipping markets Peter gained experience in the fields of shipping analysis, executive assistance, caretaking of investors and the art of transforming data and statistics into overviews and forecasts. Prior to his career in BIMCO, he worked for the dry bulk and product tanker company D/S NORDEN. Peter holds a Master’s Degree in economics from the University of Copenhagen

Philip Damas
Philip Damas is in charge of Drewry Supply Chain Advisors, the logistics practice of the Drewry group, and is a director of Drewry Shipping Consultants. Prior to joining Drewry in 2005, Philip worked for CMA CGM and the container shipping consortium Cobra in various management and financial control roles until 1990. He then spent the 1990s analysing the logistics policies of exporters/importers and of logistics service providers when working with American Shipper and Containerisation International. Philip then became a founding director of the shipping research and database company ComPairData.
At Drewry, Philip has advised exporters, importers, lenders and ports on logistics, freight rates, seafreight procurement, supply chains and markets. He has presented papers at conferences in Asia, the United States and Europe. Philip holds an MBA from the University of Bradford Management Centre and a B. Sc. and M.Sc. Finance from the University of Strasbourg.

Tim Smith
Tim directs MSI’s oil and tanker market analysis, modelling and forecasting, as well as leading or contributing to bespoke consultancy and research projects.
Tim regularly presents on oil and tanker markets to MSI’s diverse client base, including banks, private equity, shipowners and shipbrokers, as well as presenting at conferences and participating in panels and industry events. His views on the tanker sector are regularly quoted by the shipping and financial media.
Prior to joining MSI, Tim worked for Shell Trading and Shipping Company (STASCO) and has a BSc in Economics from the University of Warwick.
