7:10pm – Classifying Companies Using Machine Learning

Some traditional ways of security classification are by industry, market capitalization, or country of risk. As revenue streams of large corporations, especially those in Asia, become more complex, are these still efficient classifications? Kevin will explore ways to classify companies using machine learning methodology.

7:30pm – Natural Language Processing on Social Media for Investment

Alpha capture has been increasingly difficult in the market. To seek alpha, inventors and portfolio managers have started to look beyond traditional data sets. Ken will share his experience of using Natural Language Processing technique to look into unstructured data sourced from social media.

His team designs and develops proof-of-concept models and visualizations to extract insights from data using cutting edge data science and machine learning techniques. Kevin has over 10 years of experience applying quant and data scientist techniques in investment processes.
Kevin is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Financial Risk Manager (FRM) Charterholder, and holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Aerospace Engineering from Purdue University.
