Overview

Bloomberg, Cornell Tech, and Tech:NYC invite you to tune in for the latest installment of the Cornell Tech @ Bloomberg Speaker Series, featuring Lisa Lewin, CEO of General Assembly, in conversation with Scarlet Fu of Bloomberg Television.

Originally founded in New York City in 2011 as a co-working space, General Assembly quickly evolved to provide courses on everything from data science and design to product management and web development. In doing so, it helped launch the coding bootcamp movement, which saw private companies offer classes to turn students from all walks of life into computer programmers.

General Assembly, which was acquired by Adecco in 2018 for $412 million, now has more than 30 campuses and 70,000 alumni around the globe. In addition to serving students, the company partners with companies to provide them with talent pipelines. In 2020, to adapt to the restrictions related to COVID-19, General Assembly moved its curriculum online. Lewin was named its new CEO in August 2020.

We hope you’ll join us for this conversation, in which Lewin and Fu will discuss how taking a class as a student at General Assembly ultimately led Lewin to the company’s top post, how COVID-19 has reshaped the landscape of online education, General Assembly’s role in defining and democratizing access to the most in-demand jobs, and what the future of work will look like in a post-pandemic world.
