Overview

Join us at Bloomberg’s San Francisco engineering office for another set of our Open Studio Days  focused on Jupyter. Bloomberg will be hosting on Friday, September 6th from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM and Saturday, September 7th from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Join us for one day or both!

The days will be a mixture of “office hours” with core developers as well as a chance to collaborate with others on exploring ideas and approaches related to the Jupyter ecosystem. Demos, code, UI sketches, bug-fixes, paper-prototypes, documentation, conversations, and ideas are all valuable and valid forms of participation. There will be an opportunity for ‘lightning talks’ at the end of each day to share what you’ve been working on with others!

We’d like to welcome participants from both industry and academia, with a range of experiences.

Examples of the kind of work you may want to do:

  • write your first JupyterLab plugin
  • prototype a classroom management user interface for JupyterHub deployment
  • push forward on a Jupyter customization for internal use
  • remix nteract’s React components for a side-by-side “diff” view of notebooks
  • brainstorm on-ramping new users – what approaches are missing?
  • start a new language kernel or improve an existing one
  • research and document some aspect of the user experience across similar tools
  • integrate with some other tool (web browser plugin, git commit hook, etc)
  • sketch out workflow patterns involving multiple notebooks
  • survey attendees and collect answers to a question like “what defaults do you change to be more productive?”
  • fix bugs or improve documentation in one of the Jupyter-related projects

We are pleased to provide breakfast and lunch on both days. Hope you can join us!
