Mohammad Abdal is a founding member and chairman of the Middle East Investor Relations Association Chapter in Kuwait and a member of the globally recognized National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI).
Mohammad Abdal was appointed Chief Communications Officer of Zain Group effective July 10, 2015, heading three significant divisions within Zain Group: namely Investor Relations, Corporate Communications, and Corporate Governance & Compliance.
A Kuwaiti national, Abdal is a home-grown success story having joined Zain in 2001 as a finance executive soon after graduation. Over the next 16 years Abdal rose rapidly through the organization; playing a key role in various aspects of the company’s evolution and success from a local operator in Kuwait to becoming the leading telecom conglomerate it is today.
Abdal has led the Zain Group Investor Relations department since 2008 and in January 2012 was given the added responsibility of overseeing the Group’s Corporate Communications Department. In early 2014, he established the Group’s Corporate Governance division, one of the first companies in Kuwait to fully embrace the new compliance regulations initiated by the country’s Capital Market Authority.
Key milestones in Abdal’s impressive career at Zain include managing two of the largest capital raisings in the history of Kuwait, namely a US$4.5 billion capital rights issue in September 2008 and a US$2.3 billion rights issue in November 2005. Additionally, he has overseen the IPOs and listing of various Zain entities over the years, including the successful listing of Zain Saudi Arabia on the Tadawul Stock Exchange in March 2008, and a subsequent capital raising of US$1.6 billion in July 2012; as well as the IPO and subsequent listing of Zain Bahrain in December 2014. He was also involved in the IPO and subsequent listing of Zain shares in Zambia in 2008 (known as Celtel at the time), and in June 2015 was involved in the successful IPO and listing of Zain Iraq on the Iraqi Stock Exchange.
Abdal graduated in 2001 from Portland State University, Oregon, US with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a double major in Finance & Management Information Systems. He has also attended reputable executive programs in recent years that earned him several recognitions as a Certified Investments and Derivatives Auditor (CIDA), a Certified Investor Relations Officer and a Certified Corporate Governance Officer.

Zain Group

Jennifer leads and oversees Zain’s Corporate Sustainability (CS) Department which is responsible for setting the CS strategy and related KPIs at the Group level.  She is also responsible for communicating the CS strategy, direction as well as supporting all eight operations in their CS activities. Over the years, Jennifer has managed to position Zain as a leader in the realm of Sustainability through sheer determination and pushing the agenda to see the company grow and embrace CS in all aspects of its digital growth strategy.

A stalwart of Zain since 1993, she initially headed the PR and Advertising for 10 years when the company was known as MTC. In 2005, Jennifer established the Group CS department and since that time has developed the sustainability agenda for Zain Group including the reporting aspect that sees Zain publishing its Consolidated Sustainability Report and a Thought Leadership Report on an annual basis.

One of Jennifer’s main drivers is to ensure that the company has a sound social contract whereby it actively addresses it various socio-economic and environmental impacts, while simultaneously ensuring that there is a shared value approach to all its initiatives.

Jennifer graduated with merit from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri USA with a degree in Art History and Archaeology.

Belinda Scott

VP and Head of Corporate Sustainability
FAB – First Abu Dhabi Bank

Belinda has over 15 years of experience as a sustainability professional and acts as the FAB’s sustainability adviser.  She leads the corporate sustainability team at FAB where she has responsibility for developing the Bank’s corporate sustainability strategy which includes both the bank’s ESG approach and performance and the social development and community investment programmes.

One of her key strengths is in building external partnerships and seeking opportunities for creating alliances that generate and achieve shared value.

Belinda is an Associate Member of the Institute of Fundraising in UK, and sits on a number of committees including the UAE’s Private Sector Advisory Council for the Sustainable Development Goals, the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Technical Advisory Committee, the Sustainable Finance Steering Committee, supported by UNEP FI, the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) and UAE Central Bank, the MOCCAE’s Climate Change & Environment Council Technical Committee.  She is also a member of the Women’s Empowerment and Equality Board, an initiative spearheaded by HH Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan.

Jaap Meijer

Head of Research at Arqaam Capital while also heading up the firm’s financials, macro, and strategy research teams. Prior to joining Arqaam capital, Jaap Meijer was a Director at Dresdner Kleinwort in London amongst others, covering European investment banks and bancassurance companies.

Jaap Meijer holds a Master of Science in Business Administration and Economics with an emphasis on Finance & Investments from Vrije Universiteit (Amsterdam), an MBA from Webster University (St. Louis) and is a holder of both the CFA charter and the CEFA designation (VBA).

Based in London, James Coyle is Bloomberg for Education’s specialist for Europe, Middle East and Africa, responsible for developing Education partnerships in more than 90 countries. Prior to this role, he covered the Public Sector in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, focusing chiefly on Sovereign investment agencies and Central banks.
