Bloomberg, Cornell Tech, and Tech:NYC invite you to join us for the latest installment of the Cornell Tech @ Bloomberg series, featuring Beth Comstock, former Chief Marketing Officer and Vice Chair of GE, in conversation with Scarlet Fu of Bloomberg Television.

“The world is never going to be slower in terms of change than it is today,” writes Comstock in her new book, Imagine It Forward, setting up the problem that she believes all organizations — large and small — must address: managing change. Comstock’s own story is a study of how to do so successfully.

In a career that spanned more than 30 years at NBC and (parent company) GE, she rose to become GE’s highest-ranking female executive ever, holding the role of CMO and then Vice Chair of Business Innovations, before stepping away in 2017. She ran GE’s growth efforts via marketing, sales, licensing, and communications. She led the company’s push into digital content, including the launch of Hulu. She also led the ecomagination initiative to focus on cleantech innovation and oversaw GE Ventures and GE’s lighting business. She spearheaded the company’s investment in the industrial Internet, placing data and analytics at the center of its more traditional businesses, such as manufacturing and services. At the core of her work is innovation and how businesses use it to drive growth and company culture.

We hope you’ll join us for the conversation with Comstock to discuss how she managed innovation within one of the largest and oldest companies in America, why the job no one wants is sometimes the most exciting one, her experiences working with Jack Welch and Jeff Immelt (and twice declining offers from Steve Jobs to work for Apple), what GE can do to reinvent itself again, and how we all can prepare for the inevitable acceleration of change that’s to come.
