Bloomberg, Cornell Tech, and Tech:NYC invite you to join us for the latest installment of the Cornell Tech @ Bloomberg series, featuring Anjali Sud, CEO of Vimeo, in conversation with Scarlet Fu of Bloomberg Television.

Founded in 2004 and purchased by IAC in 2006, Vimeo grew as a site for filmmakers and creators to upload and share their videos with viewers. Sud joined Vimeo in 2014 to run marketing for the company and, three years later, was named its CEO at the age of 34. As online video platforms evolved, Vimeo competed with the likes of YouTube and Netflix and planned to launch a subscription service for viewers to watch premium content.

That service never launched, in part because Sud had other ideas for Vimeo’s future, pitching a strategy that focused on serving creators instead of competing with other platforms to buy content and attract viewers. Her filmmaker-centric approach to the business ultimately won her the CEO job, in which role she’s remade Vimeo as a technology company that provides tools to filmmakers that help them create, manage, share, and monetize their video content.

Shortly after becoming CEO, Sud led Vimeo’s acquisition of Livestream. Last year, Vimeo expanded its creator offerings by launching Vimeo Stock, a marketplace for stock video footage. The company now has 80 million registered users, approximately one million of whom pay for its premium services for creators.

We hope you’ll join us for this conversation with Sud during which she will discuss how she managed Vimeo’s shift from a media company to a technology company, why she chose to focus its business on creators rather than viewers, her experience running a company within Barry Diller’s IAC, how platforms that Vimeo previously competed with have become its partners, and the next online video you should watch.
