Future-proofing EU ETS2: Balancing affordability, climate action and smart policy
Wednesday, 17 September 2025
15:30-19:00
Bloomberg Brussels Office
Blv. Charlemagne 1, Brussels
The EU Emissions Trading System 2 (ETS 2), set to become fully operational by 2027, represents a major milestone for European climate policy. For the first time, the system will introduce an EU-wide carbon price for emissions from road transport, building heating, and small industrial installations not currently covered by the existing EU ETS.
Recent debates, including a joint non-paper submitted in July by the Czech Republic and 18 EU member states, highlight growing calls for adjustments to the new emissions trading system to better safeguard against price spikes. Hosted by BloombergNEF and Bloomberg Philanthropies, this event will feature the launch of BloombergNEF’s latest analysis and scenario projections on the future of EU ETS2. The discussion will explore how factors such as market stability reserve adjustments, additional policy measures, and innovative use of revenues could influence carbon pricing and mitigate impacts on consumers.
Join us for a discussion with senior government officials, policymakers and industry leaders on the impacts of EU ETS2 on European consumers and potential measures to mitigate household costs while accelerating decarbonization in transport and buildings.
This event is invitation only and attendance is subject to approval. This event will be on-the-record.
This is an invitation-only event. Invitations are non-transferrable.
